Enlisted Members - $386.50/Month

Most people join the military in the quest of joining one of the branches. Enlisted members comprise most of the military workforce. They have a job specialty and do most of the hands-on work. Usually, you’ll need to do four years of active duty and four years of inactive duty. After you’ve rounded off your active duty time, you have two options either to extend your contract or re-enlist if you want to serve.

No matter which branch or rank you choose to embrace, there is a vast majority of military personnel who are paid in salary and of course, they get several allowances too to get supplies such as food and groceries they may need. Last heard the enlisted members of the military are paid $386.50 per month. Officers on the other hand get paid an allowance that amounts to $266.18 per month.

Cadets And Midshipmen - $1,186/Month

Pay grades are usually used by the eight uniformed services of the United States such as the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Space Force, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps.

The wages and benefits are given based on the current military rank of a member of the services. There are indeed eight uniformed services, pay grades that are divided accordingly to uniform and equivalent between the services and can give you an idea about a group of members hailing from different services. These things are kept in mind when determining a member's entitlements taking into mind things like basic pay and allowances.

As far as cadet or midshipman is concerned, they are students who hail from one of the five service academies. and are on the lowest rung of the military pay scale. E-2 Service Members - $2,000.70/Month

An E-2 happens to be the next rank in military services right after the E-1. Most of the soldiers don't have to spend a considerable amount of time in E-2, though. An E2 can get to the next level say to a Private First Class, or E-3, rank, within a year. While E-2 pay is considered the lowest in Army, E-2s also usually get additional compensation on top of their base pay.

This rank includes the first private class in the Marines, seaman apprentice in the Navy and Coast guard, an airman included service ranks such as Air Force and Space Force, and private second class in the Army. Thanks to their hard work and experience their allowance amounts to $2,000.70 per month and an annual salary that amounts to $24,008.40. With every rank going up the ladder the payment amount jumps to a substantial amount.

E-3s With Less Than Two Years Experience: $2,103.90/Month

When a service member crosses the first two barriers and reaches the E-3, their salary is based on how many years they have spent in the military services. The ranking of E-3 also includes ranks such as Air Force and Space Force airmen first class, Marine lance corporals, Army privates first class, and Navy and Coast Guard seamen.

The men and women working in this capacity have less than two years of experience and earn $2,103.90 per month while people with more experience earn a notch higher than that, $2,103.90 per month. The amount goes up for people who earn more than that, say $2,371.80 per month.  Apart from the Basic Pay, a Private First Class is also eligible to receive more allowances and pays in incentives.

E-4: $2,330.40/Month - $2,829/Month

Every military branch boasts of its rank structure with varying pay as per the branch, role, and the number of years of service they put in. The officers who are in the Middle-ranking earn salaries in the E-4 pay grade.

Soldiers who are within the E-4 pay structure zone earn this enlisted pay grade with additional benefits, along with their primary duties. By E-4 servicemen and women we mean specialists who hold the rankings of Army specialists and corporals, Marine corporals, Navy and Coast Guard petty officers third class, and Air Force and Space Force senior airmen. Army men and women who are in this rank earn around $2,829 per month and $500 more when they are in a similar rank.

E-5: $2,541.60/Month - $3,606.90/Month

The military servicemen and women who finally reach the E-5 status have lots of experience along the way as they climb to the next venerable rank making the journey from E-1 to E-5. They are well rewarded for their perseverance and position.

Some of the military servicemen and women who make it to the E-5 rank are the Navy and Coast Guard, sergeants working in the echelons of the Army, and Marines and staff sergeants in the Air Force and Space Force. Service members who make it to the E-5 pay grade have at least 12 years in service and get paid at least  $2,541.60 per month to $3606.90 and $43,282.80/year.

E-6: $2,774.40/Month - $4,297.20/Month

What does the E-6 military level comprise and what designations does it include? The designated officers forming this military position as first-class officers in the Navy and Coast Guard, technical sergeants forming the Air Force and Space Force, and staff sergeants in the Army and Marines.

However, to reach this position, they need to serve in the military for at least 18 years. While their monthly salary ranges from $2,774.40  to $4,297.20 and gets an annual salary that amounts to $51,566.40.  Apart from the basic pay, staff sergeants may get paid additional pay allowances for housing and food, and also get a special incentive in the event of hostile fire and dangerous duties.

E-7: $3,207.60/Month - $5,765.40/Month

There is a huge pay gap between the E-7 servicemen and women. This ranking includes officials including designations such as Army sergeants first class, Marine gunnery sergeants, Navy and Coast Guard chief petty officers, and, Air Force and Space Force master sergeants.

If a person holding the E-7 rank has served for less than two years, their annual salary may amount to $38,491.20. However,  E-7 servicemen and women serve with a whopping 26 years of experience under their belt earn an amount of $69,184.80 annually. When you compare the base pay of W-3 and E-7, the former's base pay is lower than E-7s, standing at $5,765.40/month.  The average salary for a US Army Sergeant First Class E7 is $67,519 annually.  It is 3% higher than the average US Army salary amounting to $65,487 per year for this rank.

E-8: $4,614.60/Month - $6,581.40/Month

E-8 ranks the 8th enlisted paygrade in the United States military. The E-8 grade begins with having 8 years of experience and a basic pay rate amounting to $4,739.10 per month and the amount of $157.97 per drill.

Only service members who have eight years of experience can join the E-8 payscale bandwagon. This rank has designations including first sergeants in the Army, senior master sergeants in the Air Force and Space Force, master sergeants in the Army and Marines, also including senior chief petty officers in the Navy and Coast Guard.

These servicemen and women get an amount of $4614.60 per month to $55,375.20 with the amount reaching $78,976.80 per year.

E-9: $5,637/Month - $8,752.50/Month

E-9 holds the 9th enlisted paygrade in the United States military. The E-9 grade needs you to hold at least 10 years of experience with a basic pay rate that amounts to $5,789.10 per month and the amount received by the military persons are $192.97 per drill.

When servicemembers finally reach the position of E-9, their salary goes up to a great extent. W-4 happens to be the fourth warrant officer pay grade in the United States military, whose monthly basic pay ranges from $4,791.90 for an entry-level that reaches theW-4 to $8,925.60 per month for W-4 personnel who has 40 years of experience. When people in the Army, Marines, and Navy happen to reach the W-5 pay grade, people in the Coast Guard reach the position of the Chief Warrant Officer 4 or W-4 as they are better known. O-9 is said to be the 9th officer paygrade in the United States military. O-8: $11,329.50/Month - $16,333.20/Month

With the O-8s shouldering many responsibilities they deserve an enormous salary. This ranking tier includes the ranking of some of the major generals of the Army, Marines, Air Force, and Space Force, and rear admirals of the Coast Guard and Navy.

O-8 happens to be the 8th officer pay grade in the United States military, with the monthly basic pay ranging from the amount $11,635.50 for an entry-level O-8  and it moves to $16,774.20 per month for O-8 personnel who comes with 40 years of experience. While army personnel on the O-8 pay grade across all of the US armed services are paid basic pay rates. O-7: $9,414.30/Month - $14,065.80/Month

O-7 is another elite ranking in the military services. It includes a brigadier general belonging to the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Space Force, and the position of the rear admiral lower half in the Coast Guard and Navy.

Since it is one of the most revered positions in the military services, even service people who do not have enough experience to boast of can draw an impressive six-figure salary. The base pay of the O-7 ranking amounts to $112,971.60 per year. People with more experience will definitely add more to their bank account, people with 30 years of experience can earn about $168,789.60 per year!

O-6: $7,139.10/Month - $12,638.40/Month

O-6 as the position entails is the 6th officer paygrade in the United States military. The O-6 grade begins with less number of years experience boasting of a basic pay rate of $7,332.00 per month and a drill pay rate that amounts to $244.40 per drill.

The tier of O-6 includes the ranks of colonels in the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Space Force, and the rank of Coast Guard and Navy. It takes a lot of effort, hard work, and perseverance to reach the position. Of course, they are well compensated for their specific performances or services. The base pays for an O-6 amount to $85,669.20 per year, and people with 30 years of service in this rank can earn up to $151,660.80.

O-5: $5,951.40/Month - $10,111.20/Month

O-5s are in the next line of services as far as the commissioned officers are concerned. This tier specifically includes lieutenant colonels in the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Space Force. They are also known as commanders in the Coast Guard and Navy. Whatever may be the actual title, O-5s are paid a substantial amount of money that depends on their experience.

Even those in the O-5 ranks with little to no experience can expect an amount of $71,416.80 per year, while those with more than 22 years of experience under their belt can make close to $121,334.40. Their monthly income will be around, $5,951.40?Month - $10,111.20/Month.

O-4: $5,135.10/Month - $8,573.70/Month

After the O-5 ranking comes the important O-4s. It comprises the Army, Marines, Air Force, and Space Force, and a lieutenant commander involving the Coast guard and Navy. Some military personnel may move up the ladder O-4 rank quickly even if they have little to no experience. However, it is rare to find a case like that

The servicemen and women in this rank may expect to get an annual salary of $61,621.20. As in most cases, people with more than 18 years of experience get more than a six figures salary. In that case, their salary amounts to $102,884.40 per year.

O-3E - $6,022.80/Month - $7,839/Month

O-3E turns out to be 3rd officer paygrade in the United States military. The O-3 grade begins with 2 or fewer years of experience and the basic rate is around $4,636.50 per month and a drill pay rate that amounts to $154.55 per drill.

An O-3E captain or lieutenant is all set to earn an annual sum, even without putting in years of experience under their belts. O-2E: $5,289.90/Month - $6,251.70/Month

Apart from your standard O-2E military paycheck, it may contain several tax-free allowances and special payments may depend on factors like duty station, qualifications, or military specialties. These factors impact things like normal military pay, salary, or compensation.

While an O-2E is thought to be on the same lines as O-2, their pay grade is better than the former. Most military pay comes from two basic sources: base pay and special pay. Base pay happens to be almost the same across all service branches and is based on rank and time in service, with pay raises as per the creditable service. A first lieutenant in the lines of the Army, Marines, Air Force, and Space Force and a lieutenant junior grade in the Navy and Coast Guard comes under the ranking of an O-2. Even though the O-1 or Officer 1s (O-1) may be of a higher ranking than W-5s, they may not get as much money as W-5s. O-1s are usually young without having any prior experience. W-5 usually graduates from the academies of an ROTC program.
