BBQ with Elizabeth

This was Elizabeth's forte, she would tap into her curious self and try to learn as many things as possible. Since she began her journey in the acting field fairly young, she had to learn many things on the go.

She didn't have a proper normal childhood like the rest of her peers. Yet she made the most of it, trying to imbibe the knowledge and spend the maximum time picking up new stuff like in this case learning how to fire shots from a shotgun. It is great that her co-stars were also ready to teach her.

Elizabeth knew just how much makeup to put on and never overdid it. She just put on enough to enhance her best features, in this case, her eyes and lips. With her naturally wavy and voluminous she never needed to do much.

She has been photographed many times doing her make-up. She did not believe in the pancaked looked, the kind of look where you put on too much makeup and look far removed from her natural self. Did she have antiaging secrets? Well, we don't know about that, but whatever she did worked great for her. She was the epitome of grace and beauty.

Lovey-Dovey Couple

We are not surprised at all that someone as beautiful as Elizabeth, with her beautiful violet eyes and kind heart, would be involved in so many romantic relationships. From her first union, which did not last more than a year, to her unexpected choice for husband number eight, there’s no doubt Liz was always on the lookout for love.

Elizabeth’s relationship with Richard Burton turned out to be one of her most legendary romances after marrying him twice, but each of her husbands had their own love story. We don't know whether she pursued romance or romance pursued her, but the fact of the matter is she was involved in many relationships.

Here, Elizabeth announced her engagement to someone much older than her, an Army Air Force veteran William D. Pawley Jr in 1949. The newly engaged couple poses together at his lavish Miami home.

Cool And Casual At Home

Elizabeth's style evolution over the years is to be seen to believe. Elizabeth Taylor will be remembered as many things, right from being a silver screen legend, eternal romantic, beauty queen - but for us, it's her fashion icon status that catches our attention the most.

She has been one of the most fashionable leading ladies in the history of cinema. She could make it look so easy, without doing much. A simple dress, a blow-dry, and she were all set to conquer many fashion milestones.

Talented Actress

It is 1950 and here the actress is seen sewing the preserved flowers into a hair piece. She is sweing and yet she looks gorgeous. We love her outfit and her subtke makeup that is making her look nothing short of gotrheous.

The green dress with colorful flowers sewn on it looks perfect on her. She is in a casual pose yet her angelic smile and her serene expression, make her look effortlessly beautiful.

She was certainly a woman of many parts, right from painting, to cooking to sewing, she can do that all that and more all in a day's work. Elizabeth was such an intriguing personality, there's so much to know about her still. Although most of her life she was in the public eye, yet she managed to maintain that mysterious persona. No wonder she was a superstar.

Married Now!

Elizabeth was on a rebound from her broken engagement with hotel heir Conrad Hilton Jr. The young couple walked down the aisle in Beverly Hills on May 6, 1950. Their wedding was just after the release of their film, Father of the Bride, and it went on to become the perfect publicity for the movie. And it is said that MGM covered all the costs.

Elizabeth believed in all her relationships and walked down the aisle eight times, twice with the same man, Richard Burton. Despite being married so many times Richard was her true love. And she often said that she can hardly forget her only enduring love.

It is a little sad to note that a woman who experienced unprecedented success in her life, did not find the same in her personal life. Sad but the true fact of her life.

A Heartbreak and a Divorce

The actress's marriage to Conrad did not last long, in fact, it was as good as over throughout its first year, although the divorce got finalized in 1951.

Taylor was just 18 and Hilton was 24 when they tied the knot. He was the heir to the Hilton hotel empire and Taylor was eager to marry young, as she had been nursing puritanical beliefs because of her upbringing.

MGM organized the wedding. However, Liz realized soon enough that it was a mistake as the man in question was abusive and alcoholic. Their divorce followed soon after. The entire news was splashed all over the press and Elizabeth experienced the first major heartbreak. We don't know how she recovered from the same. However very soon she was into her next relationship. Whether the next relationship lasted long enough, well we have to wait to find that out.

A New Romance in the Offing

Elizabeth started seeing British actor Michael Wilding after her divorce from Conrad in 1951. Taylor again jumped into her next relationship and her marriage and the two got married to the British actor in a low-key ceremony in February 1952.

He was older than her by 20 years and the couple had two sons together, Michael Howard and Christopher Edward. In 1955, while Taylor had been away creating the movie Giant it was reported that Wilding booked the inappropriate services at his home.

The couple finally divorced in 1957. Wilding suffered from epilepsy and later died from the injuries he sustained during a fall during an epileptic seizure in 1979. It was another end to a romance and a marriage for Elizabeth. It was sad, that although Elizabeth continued in earnest to find the perfect marriage, she couldn't.

At Her Goofiest Best

Despite her heartbreaks and the many broken marriages she still managed to retain her humor and goofiness. Elizabeth here shows off her goofy side by posing for a silly photo as she was about to get her hair washed.

All those who were close to her would vouch for that she was humorous, funny, and candid. There was so much more to her than meets the eye, behind the ultra-glamorous facade.

Behind that veneer lay a woman who was a girl at heart and was in earnest pursuit of happiness and success. She did get the latter though, but as far as her happiness in her personal life was concerned, it continued to elude her. The bewitching beauty hid many a sad story behind those incredible eyes. There is so much intrigue behind her interesting life story. She was truly an enigma.

Happily Ever After?

Elizabeth walked down the aisle with her beau Michael Wilding in February 1952. The two actors got married at Caxton Hall in London since they both hailed from Britain. Their marriage lasted from 1952-1957.

Michael was 20 years her senior and the couple shared two sons together, Michael Howard and Christopher Edward. In 1955, while Taylor was at the set of Giant, something happened at the Wilding residence which ultimately brought about their divorce.

Yes, the couple ultimately divorced in 1957. Wilding was susceptible to fits of epilepsy and he sustained heavy injuries after a fatal fall during an epileptic seizure in 1979. Their marriage alliance was short and tumultuous. It was sad that the two could not find happiness together. Elizabeth jumped to the next relationship immediately after. Did she find everlasting love? We'll find out soon enough!

The actress who starred in classic films like Cleopatra, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Butterfield 8, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Her close association with dogs began as early as Lassie's film, Lassie Come Home, as Priscilla, the daughter of the Duke of Rudling.

Elizabeth has been keeping pets till the day she breathed her last. This goes to show her deep love for her pets who provided enough emotional succor in tumultuous times. She kept different breeds of dogs during her lifetime and showered endless love for them. She used to take great pains in staying close to them even when she was traveling.

On Set Fun

Elizabeth Taylor has been part of films such as A Place in the Sun, Cleopatra, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and managed to impress the audience and critics alike.

She was the perfect Hollywood movie star. She was glamorous, gorgeous, and enormously gifted. Her eyes were regarded as the most famous in the world, they were an incandescent violet-blue. No wonder, every magazine on newsstands had Elizabeth Taylor on its cover.

Here Taylor is seen being photographed during a photoshoot with wardrobe while being on the set for The Girl Who Had Everything, her 17th film, which went on to premiere in 1953. Elizabeth always lets out her goofy side on film sets. Although she was a big star, she always believed in the concept of having fun, always and that's the beauty of stars like her, who never seemed to take herself too seriously.

The Beautiful Icon Turns Mother

We all know about Elizabeth Taylor as the movie star, the glamourous star, the philanthropist, but we have little information on Elizabeth Taylor as a mother.

While covering Taylor's life, her children had very little mention. She had four children, she shared two sons with her second husband Michael Wilding, a daughter with her third husband Mike Todd, and an adopted daughter with the husband, she married twice Richard Burton.

The beautiful globetrotting siren, keep her children out of the media focus. Unlike others, she did not push them to hog the limelight as the other parents.  Here we see Elizabeth and Michael Wilding welcoming their first child together, a son they named Michael Jr., in 1953. Here, Elizabeth seems happy as she plays with her first son. There is a serene quality in her face, that is hard to miss.

Back to Work

Elizabeth Taylor was in the public eye since she made her debut when she was 10 years old. From that point on, the world watched as a curious onlooker at the Hollywood starlet, who went through the various phases of her life.

Elizabeth, right after she gave birth, recovered and went back to working soon after. The actress started working in 1954 with the film,' The Last Time I Saw Paris'.

After the birth of her first son, Taylor had four children from her other marriages. Michael Wilding Jr. and Christopher Edward Wilding were born from her first marriage with Michael Wilding. Liza Todd, her only daughter was born to Taylor and Mike Todd. After divorcing Eddie Fisher, Taylor adopted her second daughter, Maria Burton, who was the daughter of  Taylor and Richard Burton. She was close to her children, but never brought them under the spotlight.

Such is the charisma of every shining star.

A Day at the Beach

Here you see Elizabeth Taylor sharing a light moment with her friends at the beach. Elizabeth loved spending time with her friends and she loved hitting the beach from time to time wearing her stylish swimsuits.

One would spot her lighter side of her, these were the times she literally let her hair down as she took a break from her giant onscreen persona. She was hounded so much by the paparazzi, that she wanted to get away from it all and spend a few relaxing moments with the few people she could call her friends.

She was as usual looking gorgeous with minimum makeup, wet hair spilling over her gorgeous face. Her gorgeous smile lighting up her face to a great extent. Although at this time she was facing a turbulent private life this was not evident from her face.

A Marriage Story Ends

Her next step into marriage was with Wilding, the British actor she met while she was filming the period film Ivanhoe in England. Though he was 20 years her senior, the pair, went on to walk the aisle on Feb. 21, 1952, and were together for almost five years. In that period Elizabeth gave birth to her two sons, Michael and Christopher. The couple finally split on Jan. 26, 1957.

Elizabeth and Michael finally rounded off their marriage after five years and two children together. Although they had signed the divorce document much later, their marriage catapulted much earlier.

Elizabeth went on to marry several times after that. But she never found that everlasting kind of love she always dreamed about. Although she went on to add a lot of money to her bank account, sadly personal happiness eluded her.

Is it Third Time Lucky?

The actress' third marriage ended in great tragedy when the power producer Mike Todd, whom she got bound in holy matrimony on Feb. 2, 1957, and shared a daughter, Elizabeth Liza, died as her plane crashed on a New Mexico mountaintop. He was killed immediately on March 22, 1958.

Elizabeth later divulged in her 1988 autobiography, Elizabeth Takes Off that she really loved him. However, personal contentment and happiness eluded her and she lost the husband she had really really loved. Elizabeth looking for emotional succor moved on from Michael Wilding to the next man in her life, the film producer Mike Todd but it ended in tragedy.

Will Elizabeth marry in rebound again or wait for love to happen to her. The couple enjoyed the best few years they had with each other. It was one of her most successful marriages.

Honeymoon in Mexico

The couple, Elizabeth Taylor and Like Todd married in Mexico in February 1957, when Taylor was pregnant with their child. However, after being married for a year, Todd died in a plane crash, which sent Taylor crazy with grief.

Here we see, the newlyweds posing for a photo while on honeymoon their in Mexico. The gorgeous people looked great posing together, all bronzed enjoying the great weather in Mexico. It was one of the best phases in their marriage and the two were crazy in love. It was really sad that the man whom Taylor really loved would have such a tragic end.

Liza, who grew up under Hollywood’s brightest spotlight, Todd was a young girl when there was a lot of frenzies sparked over Taylor’s love life. Instead of running after fame and spotlight, she reacted by steadily retreating from the spotlight. She chose to live a paparazzi-free quiet life near Hudson, NY, where she was surrounded by horses, goats, dogs, and chickens. Yes, just like her mom, she loved animals and spent her time doing sculptures and tending to her animals.

Liza made a decision early in her life not to be part of her mother's world. She never hankered after publicity. Although she stayed far away from the publicity and her mother, she loved Elizabeth and was right beside her side, when Elizabeth breathed her last.

Death in the Clouds

Elizabeth Taylor and Mike Todd’s love story was tragic, with no happy ending. On the 2nd of February, 1957, in Mexico, Elizabeth and Todd got married; it happened to their third marriage for both. Elizabeth was first married to Conrad Hilton and then got married to her second husband, Micheal WIlding, in 1952. After that, she got married to Mike Todd. This marriage went on to last for five years and they were blessed with two kids, Michael and Christopher before their relationship ended in 1957.

However, she was really attached to Mike Todd when the tragedy happened and she lost her best husband to a tragic accident.

Friend to Beau

After Mike's death, Elizabeth depended a lot on friend Eddie Fisher. Their relationship began and soon turned into a scandalous affair. Eddie was in a marital relationship with actress Debbie Reynolds at the time, and their romance spread the news that Elizabeth was regarded as a homewrecker.

Were they able to sustain the relationship? Well, let's find out whether Taylor's and Fisher's relationship goes the extra mile.

Butterfield 8 is a 1960 American drama film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Laurence Harvey. The film was based on a 1935 novel written by John O'Hara. Well, this award added a lot of mileage to her already thriving career. The picture here says a thousand words, as Elizabeth smiles for the camera, the paparazzi start clicking away to glory.

Roman Holiday

Elizabeth all smiles in this picture as her immediate family comes to meet her. In fact, it was Eddie, Fischer's idea who arranged for her family to meet at the airport in Rome. Elizabeth at that time was filming Cleopatra in Rome.

Elizabeth was always a good mother to her children. She tried to give them as much time as possible. Despite being as busy as she was, she still tried to spend as much time as she could with her children. This image shows how close she is to her family.

Her smile in fact lights up the entire photo. Staying away from her children for long days owing to the long schedules of shooting can be especially tough for a mother. So, this was a nice surprise for her and it had her beaming. Well, maybe in her mind she is already planning activities that she and the kids would be indulging in.

Playtime With Kids

Elizabeth and her son Michael are spending quality time with him, playing bumper cars at the circus in 1961. Elizabeth knows this is one of the most popular games among children. No wonder playing with her kids gives her maximum happiness. She was actually quite a child at heart.

With her kind of crazy schedules, it is always difficult to spend enough time with kids and miss their growing-up years. Even as she was among the most popular stars at that time, yet she always put her kids first. She was always protective about her kids and took them far away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.

She knew her life was always under the scanner and never wanted her kids to go through the same thing as she did. Her daughter, Liz stayed far away from the limelight and lived far away as she grew up.

Kids on the Set

Elizabeth, who looked dazzling in the film, Cleopatra, is seen doing her own makeup. She is fixing her eye makeup as her two sons look on. Her kids look in wonder at her mother. They may find it fascinating to see their mom wearing different types of makeup, costumes to play a certain type of role on the screen.

Although the tinsel town seems very glamorous at the onset, how glamorous is it really? What do the near and dear ones feel? Do they feel fascinated by the various aspects of acting or do they feel repelled by the various aspects of it? Well, this is something we would never know.

We think it becomes tedious for the stars and their family to always smile through it all, even when they are going through a tough time in their lives.

A Clandestine Affair

While we thought that the marriage between Fischer and Elizabeth was for keeps, it was not to be. The smoking chemistry that we see on the screen for the film, Cleopatra, but not all of it is fiction. There indeed was sizzling chemistry between the two.

Here though we see the two married couple in this picture, Fischer and Taylor, actually there is a third angle in this story. Fischer paid a visit to Cleopatra in 1961, and they are seen cuddling while chatting with Richard Burton.

Although we see the camaraderie between the three individuals there is so much more to it than meets the eye. What the picture does not show that Elizabeth and Eddie were soon to divorce in 1962 and the big reveal was Elizabeth and Richard were having a torrid affair during the filming of Cleopatra.

An Affair to Remember

Talks about Elizabeth's and Richard's relationship soon spread like wildfire. While they are being seen vacationing here in Italy. Richard was a married man at that time to someone else and of course, Elizabeth was married too. The media frenzy that their affair caused was unprecedented.

The frenzy reached such a crescendo that the Vatican officially condemned the couple and banned them from returning to the country. The two were so much in love at that time that they were oblivious to the furor they were causing around them. They continued with their relationship, hardly paying any heed to what was happening around them.

Their relationship reached a stage where they decided to marry. In fact, they married twice. They shared undeniable chemistry, but their chemistry was not enough to keep them together. Although Elizabeth did admit later that Richard was her one and only true love.

Adopting a Girl Child

Before Elizabeth began her torrid affair with her co-star Richard Burton,  Eddie and her was planning to adopt a little girl from Germany before their marriage finally caved in. In 1962, Elizabeth still went ahead with the adoption process with the man in her life then, Richard Burton, and went on the name the child Maria Burton.

Elizabeth was always drawn towards children. She had always thought of adopting another child. Even though she was not able to complete the adoption process with Fischer, she had Richard's full support.

Elizabeth always followed her heart and did exactly what it told her. Whether her decisions were rash, well, we don't know much about that but she lived her life to the fullest and nothing, or should we say no one could stop her from achieving what she wanted to achieve. Such was her resolve.

Fifth Time Lucky

Elizabeth at her fifth wedding wore a marigold, long-sleeved dress, and an elaborate gorgeous hairpiece for her wedding to her beau Richard Burton in Montreal, Canada.

Welsh actor Burton was often described as the love of Taylor's life. He was her fifth husband, but they went on to marry twice. Their affair began on the sets of Cleopatra in Italy when each of them was married to different people. They were known as Liz and Dick, and the name was given by the paparazzi,

They were caught on a yacht in Ischia, and the couple was condemned for erotic vagrancy by the Vatican. Taylor went on to marry Burton nine days after separating from Fisher. They went on to star in many films together and Burton even gifted Taylor a $1 million diamond necklace. They tried their best to make their marriage work the second time around, but it did not last because of various issues cropping up between them.

Life in Sardinia

Elizabeth and Richard went on to star in numerous films together throughout their marriage. While they were filming Boom! in 1967, the couple decided to move their family aboard to their yacht, Kalizma in Sardinia, Italy.

Here the duo is seen looking out into the sea from their yacht. The picture looks serene with both of them lost in their thoughts. Were they happy? Well, we don't know. They certainly had great chemistry between them and their's was the most photographed and written about courtship. People loved to see them together.

So, why couldn't be they together. Whose fault was it that the couple couldn't stay together despite their love for each other. Well, nobody's we guess. They just couldn't stop the issues from creating a wedge between them. At one time the problems started looking insurmountable and gradually they drifted away.

Loving Mother to Her Children

In this photo, you see the mother and son duo, Elizabeth, and her eldest son, Michael, walking arm in arm. Despite the fact that her personal life was the cause of fodder for the grapevine, she never let it affect her relationship with her children. She was a hand's mother who always wanted to be there for her children.

Whether she was walking in Los Angeles or overseas she tried to ensure that her kids were somewhere near her. She made arrangements so that kids did not feel alone in the house and she did not have to stay away from them for long.

So when she was filming during Cleopatra, she had her kids along with her, who were allowed to spend quality time with her, watching her put on makeup and perform before the camera. These were precious moments between the mother and children.

In a Recording Studio

This was one of the candid shots of Elizabeth who is in work mode in a recording studio in California in 1970. We don't know what she is working on, however, she looks pensive.  Was she dubbing for a movie? Or was she doing something else. We would clearly like to know exactly what is she thinking.

Is she sad or happy? Although we know she had a tumultuous personal life, what we didn't know was what she really felt. Her many marriages and relationships, her stupendous success, did they affect her in any way?

Showbiz is a difficult place to survive, there are too many distractions and people have to sacrifice a lot, most of their personal life to invest in a career like this. We hardly get to see what goes behind the facade. When the arc lights go off, when the make up is removed and when the celebrity is relaxing within the four walls of their home.

Airport Look

Elizabeth always puts her best foot forward when it comes to style and fashion. Here we see her channelizing the '70s fashion as she leaves the airport in London. She is wearing a floral peasant dress and trendy large gold hoops.

Well, Elizabeth was way before her tomes when it came to fashion. She was a trendsetter in every sense of the term. People followed her fashion and watch with avid interest what she would be doing next. No wonder her face was plastered over every fashion-savvy magazine.

She was indeed rare, not only was she ravishingly beautiful but she was very fashion conscious as well. Whether she wore ball gowns, dresses to trousers, all women picked up her fashion cue and started following the exact same trend. We think she can pull off any style trend with stunning looks.

Spending Time With Daughter

Elizabeth as we know was a complete fashionista. Here she is dressed in floral boots and white hot pants for a day out and she is seen with her eldest daughter, Elizabeth Liza Todd. It must be difficult to have a mother who is as famous as her mother. It is said that Liza stayed far away from the professional world of her mother since she felt a bit overwhelmed about it. She was sent away to study and later she moved away from her mothers' house to create a world of her own.

She was married and had two sons but later she got divorced. She was always interested in animals and sculptures. This was what kept her busy and happy.

However, she was right beside her mother, when she was on her death bed. The two shared a great bond with each other.

Now a Grandmother!

Elizabeth is seen with Richard and her first grandchild in Gstaad, Switzerland. Laela Wilding was the daughter of Elizabeth Taylor's first child, Michael Wilding Jr., and Johanna Lykke-Dahn.

Laela,  her grandchild is a graphic designer and yoga instructor in Portland, Oregon, was inspired early on by her grandmother's activism and became an ambassador for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

Seeing Taylor wearing one of the first to wear the red lapel ribbon for AIDS awareness at the 1992 Academy Awards made a big impact. She was a big influence in Laela's life and she wanted to follow in her grandmother's footsteps.

Divorced and Married Again

After meeting on the set of Cleopatra in the early '60s, actress Elizabeth Taylor and actor Richard Burton began one of the most publicized love stories of all time, captivating millions with their tumultuous relationship. Despite the ongoing drama, they shared a deep love, the kind of love that verged on the destructive.

The couple is pictured here with their four children, they would soon divorce in June 1974. Despite the torrid passion they shared for each other, they were constantly at loggerheads, not to mention that Burton was said to have an affair with a co-star.

Both Taylor and Burton reportedly fought so much they felt they were unable to stay together and agreed to split up again after being together for less than a year. Unfortunately the immense passion they felt for each other couldn't bound them together.

Celebrating New Year In Switzerland

Liz Taylor's sixth marriage to John Warner, the former Senator from Virginia, in 1976 surprised people in Washington and Hollywood. This is because she was reportedly going around with the Iranian ambassador to the USA. Her somewhat unexpected relationship with Warner started with a blind date at Queen Elizabeth II's bicentennial dinner held at the British embassy.

By November 1976, the duo started frequenting the Virginia Military Institute and attending various events. In December that year, they tied the knot in Warner's county farm in a sunset ceremony. Like all never-became-true fairytales, their marriage ended in 1982, although they remained good friends forever even after divorce.

After the split-up, Taylor remained unmarried till 1991, when she married the final husband of her life, Larry Fortensky. This photo was taken in Switzerland, where Warner and Liz were celebrating New Year in December 1976, a few days after getting hitched.

Look! Who's In The Pet Shop!

If you are a true Liz Taylor fan, you already know that she was rarely spotted in public without her furry little friend, Sugar. It was a Maltese, and probably the most famous pet in Liz's family. Her love for animals, dogs especially, includes Cocker Spaniels and Pekingese too. She even once famously said that all of her men own dogs and horses.

In this photo, we see Liz coming out of a Pedigree Pet Shop in Manhattan. She dropped by the store sometime in 1985, but she left the store without buying anything. It goes without saying that she was extremely concerned about the health of her pets, hence, she was quite choosy when it came to buying pet products.

Taylor, however, splurged on a yacht, named Kalizma, so that her dogs don't have to face the harsh procedure followed by the British authorities to quarantine dogs upon arrival. By mooring a yacht, she made sure that the dogs don't touch the English soil, effectively beating the system like a pro.

Her Seventh And Final Marriage

After her divorce from John Warner, Taylor remained unmarried nine long years before tying the knot with her seventh and final husband, Larry Fortensky. Larry, a construction worker, met Liz Taylor at Betty Ford Clinic back in 1988. Larry was there to "get his beer", whereas Liz dropped by the clinic to get some prescription medicines.

They started going around shortly after the first encounter. Liz called him her "Stallion" and "Larry The Lion", and Larry became known as Mr. Liz Taylor. They finally married in October 1991. The wedding took place in Michael Jackson's Neverland ranch. The wedding event reportedly cost her in the ballpark of $2 million, and we guess she didn't have to break her banks for hosting the mega event.

The duo parted ways in 1996, and Elizabeth decided not to marry again. Liz breathed his last in 2011, and five years later, Larry left for the heavenly abode.
